SHEIKH SHAKHBOUT MEDICAL CITY

The new Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (formerly Al Mafraq Hospital) is a 6oo$m (2.2b UAE Dirhams) project located in Al Mafraq, Abu Dhabi. Upon completion, the -739bed general hospital will be one of the leading trauma/surgery hospitals in the area. It will offer the highest standards of care and serve as a center of excellence in thoracic and orthopedic surgery, and burn treatment in the emirate. The new hospital is an integral part of Mubadala’s strategy to improve healthcare infrastructure in Abu Dhabi and achieve world-class healthcare for residents of the emirate. The hospital will have four patient towers dedicated to different services. It is designed with separate visitor/patient elevator cores and each floor includes waiting areas filled with natural light and a visible connection to the outside environment.

IDC’s scope of work included the Supply and Installation of Suspended Ceiling, Dry Wall Partitions, Dry Lining, Thermal Insulated Soffit Cement Board Ceiling & Exterior Cement Board Cladding for Cooling Plant. Commencement date of work was late 2011 and completion date expected during 2015. It is a BIM package project comprising with extensive use of ACONEX. With the size of this project, the challenge is to complete works with no safety incidents, which IDC has successfully maintained through implementing strict safety policies and monitoring staff closely. Works extended to the Outpatient Department Building, Annex Building, followed by Auxiliary Buildings such as the Cooling Plant, Sub-stations, Workshop and Mortuary. International Decor Co. was awarded the President’s Prize award at Saint-Gobain’s 9th International Trophy competition in Berlin. The President’s Prize is a unique discretionary award, presented every two years, which recognizes the most outstanding new installation of Saint-Gobain plasterboard systems around the world.
